Summaries of documents relating to land grants and early land transactions in South Carolina can be seen at http://www.archivesindex.sc.gov/.

Multiple documents refer to grants to Sherwood James. The earliest is dated 23 Jun 1753. It is for 300 acres in Craven Co. on the high hills on the northeast side of the Wateree River.

A plat entitled "Pettypool, Philip, Plat For 93 Acres In Craven County. Date: 9/25/1771" refers to a tract of 93 acres on the High Hills of Santee in Craven Co. and in St. Mark's Parish.
