MILITARY SERVICE:

Henry Hitt, E. S. Hitt, and Benjamin Hitt, Cpl. were in the South Carolina 3rd Inf. Co. F according to Confederate State Roster -- South Carolina, Vol. II (Unit Roster). According to the same source Henry L. Hitt was in Inf. 3rd Bn. Co. B along with Patrick Hitt, Peter Hitt, and Robert Hitt.

One of the above Henry Hitts may be Benjamin L. Hitt's son, or both of them may be William Hitt's son. See notes under the latter.

MIDDLE NAME:

This Henry L. Hitt was sometimes referred as 'Ludy' or 'Lude'. The other Henry L. Hitt in Laurens Co. (William's son) died in 1873.

On June 30, 1883 H. Ludy Hitt was summoned to appear to testify in the cause of John J. McGowan vs. Susan Smith and others. See image 102 in the probate documents associated with William Hitt who died in Laurens Co. in 1861.

On December 6, 1865 Lude Hitt made a purchase in the estate sale of Jesse Hitt.

DEATH:

On September 25, 1894 the will of Agnes J. Hitt was admitted to probate on the oath of H. L. Hitt. He died between that date and the 1900 census.
