CHILDREN:

The following deed (Edgefield Co., South Carolina Deed Records, Book 14, pgs 217-223, image 116/900) implies that Richard Pace and his wife had 3 daughters: Elizabeth, married to John Anderson, Mary, married to James Rhodes, and Charlotte, married to Ludbrook Lee. They had, in fact, another daughter Charity, who was married to George Delaughter.

On February 21, 1797 John Anderson and Elizabeth Anderson, his wife, of Edgefield Co. sell to George Delaughter of the same place for £80 a tract of 122 acres on the west side of Stephens Creek in Edgefield Co., part of a tract originally granted to Solomon Newsom. The 122 acres are bounded by land granted to Goode and George Delaughter and by Peter Hitt, Jas Rhodes, and Jno Hitt. The witnesses are James Carson Senr, James Carson Junr, James Brewer, and Robert Carson.

The tract being sold is described as "my part of the land of Richard Pace deceased which I have sold to George Delaughter for sixty five pounds sterling". "And we the coheirs James Rhodes and Ludbrook Lee renounce our claim to the within mentioned land". Mary (her ~ mark) Rhodes, wife of James Rhodes, and Charlotte (her ~ mark) Lee relinquish their rights of dower.

The following undated abstract of the distribution of assets of the estate of Joseph Day indicates that he died without issue and that his heirs are his siblings. One of them is Sarah Hitt, dec'd, and her heirs are Martin Hitt, Charlotte Lee, and Charity Delaughter. James Day and Sarah Hitt are both named in the will of their father Peter Day. The abstract is on page 55 of Edgefield County South Carolina Records compiled by Jane Revill (1984). Lamentably, I have been unable to find the original document.

Another distribution of assets (1836) can be seen in the Probate Records of Edgefield Co., South Carolina at FamilySearch, Box 9, Package 329, film # 162242, images 734-742. Martin Hitt and Charity Delaughter are mentioned among others. Richard Jones is the administrator of the estate. On November 18, 1833 he and two others are firmly bound in the sum of $3000 to J. Richardson, Ordinary for the District of Edgefield, relative to the performance of Richard Jones as administrator.

General Notes: Wife - Sarah Day

FATHER:

Edgefield Co., "South Carolina Miscellaneous probate records, 1785-1868" at familysearch.org:
Wills Vol. A-B 1787-1818, page 27 in Vol. A, image 19/451:

Peter (his + mark) Day of Edgefield Co., South Carolina signed his will October 26, 1789. It was proved in open court by the oaths of two of the witnesses in the April 1791 term. John Hitt is one of 3 executors, and Peter Day bequeaths unto his "Daughter Sarah Hitt my two negroes Slaves named Charles & Cate".

The will can also be seen in Box No. 37, Pkg. No 1398, image 440/846.

FIRST MARRIAGE:

Sarah Day was first married to Richard Pace, and they had 4 daughters: Elizabeth, married to John Anderson, Mary, married to James Rhodes, Charlotte, married to Ludbrook Lee, and Charity, married to George Delaughter. See notes under Richard Pace for details.

AGE:

Sarah and her second husband had only one child (that we know of). That suggests that she was relatively old when she remarried. 1740 as a birth year is just a guess.
