LAND:
On March 7, 1825 Larkin Hitt of Laurens District, South Carolina sold to Thomas Hitt of the same place for $306 that plantation of 102 acres on which he was then living situated in Laurens District on Bank's Creek. According to a plat it adjoins land already owned by Thomas. The deed is signed Larkin Hitt, and the witnesses are John W. Moore, Marshall Pollard and John Hitt. (Laurens Co. Deed Records M/64)
On January 28, 1828 Thomas Hitt of Laurens District sold to John Hitt of the same place for $600 all that plantation containing 105 acres in Laurens District on Bank's Creek waters of Saluda River on which he was then living. The deed is signed Thomas Hitt, and the witnesses are Alsey Fuller and Solomon Fuller. It was acknowledged by Alsey Fuller February 15, 1840 and on the same day Sarah Hitt, widow of Thomas Hitt, relinquished her dower rights. (O/31)
PROBATE:
See "Laurens District Estate Record", Book F (1826-34, LDS microfilm 1029296), pgs 389, 470, 471:
pg 389: On January 14, 1832 the court grants letters of administration on the estate of Thomas Hitt, dec'd, to James Wright, who has entered into a bond together with Abram Holingsworth and John Hitt, his securities, in the sum of $1000.
pg 470: On January 28, 1832 3 appraisers (Richard Watts, Elihue C. Watts, Daniel Fasheer) return an appraisement of $891.50.
pg 471: Sale bill dated January 30, 1832 of the estate of Thomas Hitt, dec'd. Total value is $809.04. There are lots of buyers, most of whom do not buy a lot, except John Hitt (corn fodder, horses, hogs, cows, household and kitchen furniture; total $267.30), David Owens (Negro Tom $230; total $255.25) and John McCloud (total $225.63).
Probate records for Thomas Hitt are also in Box 32, Package 2 (image 1453/1467) of Laurens Co. Estate Papers. They can be seen online at familysearch.org. Lamentably there is no indication of who the legatees were.
AGE:
Based on the census Thomas was born between 1770 and 1774. I am not aware of any other evidence concerning his age.
CHILDREN:
From Earl J. Hitt's database 'hitthaynie' in WorldConnect:
Bessie Hollingsworth Hitt in a letter to Jesse Martin Hitt, 14 February 1926 listed some of Thomas' children as: "....... John Hitt lived and died near X Hill, Peter Hitt went to Miss. last known, Alex Hitt lived and died in Columbia, S.C., the sisters Narcissis, Rebecca, Nellie, Sallie & Fannie my grand fathers Abraham Hollingworth second wife......."
One of the documents in the estate papers for Thomas's wife Sarah states that 10 of their children were living at the time of her death in 1848.
EARL J. HITT:
The following was copied from the database of Earl J. Hitt in WorldConnect (no longer existent):
The Thomas Hitt Estate Records are located in Laurens County, South Carolina, Probate Records, Box 32, pkg 2. The request by Peter C. Hitt to sell the land of his father, Thomas Hitt, dec'd is located in the Real Estate Journal, 1826 - 1868, pages 167-168, Laurens County, South Carolina.
(James O. Hyche, who believes he is a descendant of this Thomas Hitt, states that this family moved to Alabama and changed their name from HITT to HYCHE; a claim that has not been proven.)
General Notes: Wife - Sarah Deale
Thomas Hitt's wife Sarah is presumably Sarah Deale since Thomas Hitt is one of the legatees of Alexander Deale.

Probate records are in Box 102, Package 15 (image 7/1222) of Laurens Co. Estate Papers. They can be seen online at familysearch.org. Also image 320/440 at https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939L-JDSL-JH?i=319&cc=1919417&cat=130016.
On December 4, 1848 Peter C. Hitt petitions the court of ordinary of Laurens District, South Carolina for letters of administration on the estate of Sarah Hitt, who he says departed this life some time since. On December 22, 1848 Peter Hitt, John Hitt, and David Owen are bound for $1000 to guarantee that Peter Hitt will faithfully perform his duties as administrator.
An appraisement of the estate was made. At the sale Hazle Smith paid $702.50 for a clock, one Negro woman named Ellin, and one Negro boy named Tom. Seventeen other buyers bought small amounts. After various expenses were deducted, $718.73 was left. It was distributed among 10 children, each receiving $71.87. The children are not named.
