DEATH DATE:

On pages 15 and 16 of Will Book A of Benton Co., Arkansas there is a report in the minutes of the probate court for the July Term 1837 about the death of Allen McCurdy. It is alleged that he died intestate, and William H. Woods and James McCurdy were appointed to administer the estate. The report is signed by the clerk of the court and dated September 26, 1837. The dates on such reports are often subsequent to the indicated Term of the court. Allen McCurdy presumably died before July 1837.

On March 11, 1837 Allen McCurdy sold 40 acres to George H. Jefferson in Washington Co. (Deed Bk A, pg 303). He must have died after March 11.

OBITUARY:

Find-a-Grave Memorial # 18918375:

Braithwaite, Sallie- It is with regret that we chronicle the death of Aunt Sallie Braithwaite who passed this last Friday afternoon at one o'clock. It has only been a short time since her companion went over the river and was waiting to meet his loving wife. Aunt Sallie was a God-fearing Christian woman and was loved by all. She had been sick a long time and could but welcome the grim messenger who came to call her to her reward.[Benton County Democrat 3/31/1892]

Sarah was the daughter of Robert Dickson 1773-1849 and Esther Moses Moore 1775-?
She married 1st Allen McCurdy (1807-1837) in 1835.
Son: Robert Dickson McCurdy

She married 2nd John B Braithwaite (1811-1890) 1840

MIDDLE NAME:

A biographical sketch of her son Robert Dickson McCurdy written by one of his great-great-granddaughters says that she was Sarah Sharp Dickson. The death certificate of Mrs. Sarah Ester Walker (died Apr 18, 1920 in Benton Co.) says that her father was John Braithwait, born in England, and that her mother was Sarah Sublett, born in Tennessee.

The normal interpretation of the death certificate is that Sarah's maiden name was Sublett, but that is incorrect. The most probable explanation is that the informant was confused and thought that her maiden name was Sublett. 'Sublett' is usually a surname.
