In 1791 John Shaw is a second tithable in his father Archibald Shaw's household in Fauquier Co. In 1792 John Shaw has an entry of his own which is contiguous with that of his father. From 1793 onward John Shaw is in Culpeper Co. See notes under John Shaw's stepson William Hitt for more details.

General Notes: Wife - Mary

---

Mary was 55 years old in 1791 when she remarried. Hence she was born about 1736. In 1802 she was a witness to the will of her son Peter.

Mary's son William named one of his sons William Russell. One of the sons of her son Peter was Presley R. Hitt, and it is claimed that his middle name was Russell. It would be reasonable to CONJECTURE that Mary's maiden name is Russell. Note also that one of the bondsmen in the wedding of Mary's daughter Susannah was Joseph Russell. In 1745 Joseph Hitt bought a tract of 434 acres which adjoined the lands of William Russell, and in the same year John Hitt bought half of that tract from his brother Joseph.
