I wrote the following for WikiTree:

and are probably brothers although they might be cousins. They act like brothers. They lived near each other; they died at about the same time, indicating that they were about the same age; and Jonathan named one of his sons William and William named one of his sons Jonathan. If they are brothers, they have a common father. At this time (2/2024) is that common father. He was born in 1690 in Wales and died in 1766 in Kentucky. No one has provided any evidence that he was the father of Jonathan and William, and it doesn't seem probable that he would be the father of two men whose adult lives were associated exclusively with South Carolina.

Another possible candidate for the common father is a John Jones who wrote his will 5 Oct 1796 in Edgefield Co., South Carolina. A son named Jonathan and 6 other unnamed children are mentioned in the will.
