Amanda and her husband were first cousins once removed. The following is from volume 1, page 187 of Smith County Mississippi and its Families (Smith County Genealogical Society, 2003):

Sarah Ann Elizabeth Hitt was born December 25, 1843, and died September 1861. She was married on September 1, 1860, to Isaac M. Ellis. Their only child was Amanda I. Ellis, who was born August 19, 1861, and died March 5, 1931. Amanda was buried in Centon Cemetery, Madison County, Mississippi. Amanda married David Gamble Phillips and had eight children. David was born August 19, 1851. He was a Baptist preacher and is thought to be buried in Line Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Scott County, Mississippi without a tombstone.

CENSUS:

In 1870 Amanda is living in Jasper Co., Mississippi in the household of her grandfather James A. Hitt.
