This census entry may or may not correspond to our John Parker. It is a very poor match with 1850, but it is on the same page as John's brother C. W. Parker. Relative to 1850 this entry has too few children, and C. W. has too many. If 4 of John's sons were counted in 1840 in the household of C. W., the match would be reasonably good, except that John himself is missing in this entry and his wife's age is wrong.

PARKER in AMERICA:

On page 461 of Parker in America Stiles O. Parker makes the following statement about his uncle John:

John of the 6th, married Olive Foster. Children: Alpheus, Hulda, Matilda, Peter, Paul, Ransom, Minerva, Marilda, William, John, Oliver (res. West Richfield, Ohio), George, Richmond, Martha -- 7th generation.

LAND in HARDIN CO., KENTUCKY:

On December 2, 1820 Stiles Parker of Hardin Co. sells to John Parker of Hardin Co. for $400 the eastern part of the tract that he purchased from John Rhodes in 1819. It is a rectangle 161 poles 9 links east-west by 125 poles north-south and contains 126 1/3 acres. The witnesses are Stiles Parker, Jr., Lewis Parker and Riley Parker. (H/99)

On October 19, 1822 John Rider and Sally, his wife, of Hardin Co. sell to John Parker of Hardin Co. for $300 a tract of 48.5 acres in Hardin Co. on the west side of the big road from Elizabeth Town to Munfords Ville. It is short (about 30 poles) north-south and long (about 250 poles) east-west and roughly rectangular. (J/109)

On November 19, 1823 Amos Hart and Sally, his wife, of Hardin Co. sell to John Parker of Hardin Co. for $179 two tracts in Hardin Co. The first tract contains 54.75 acres and is mostly east of the big road from Elizabeth Town to Munford Ville. It is short (30 poles) north-south and long (265 poles) east-west and is roughly rectangular. It adjoins in a peculiar way the tract that he bought in 1822. He also buys a second tract of 5 acres which is probably nearby. The witnesses are Stiles Parker, Jr. and Levi Wornice. (J/108)

On November 13, 1824 John Rhodes of Hardin Co. sells to John Parker of Hardin Co. for $480 a tract of about 82 acres. It is described by metes and bounds and has an irregular shape. It is said to adjoin property already owned by Parker. The witnesses are James Rhodes and Charles W. Parker (J/472) Subsequent deeds suggest that it is south of the property that John Parker bought from his father in 1820 and that before this purchase he had bought property that lies between the two so that he now owns a contiguous block of about 250 acres although he was never taxed on that much.

On July 28, 1825 John Parker and Olive, his wife, of Hardin Co. sell to Stephen Sampson of Hardin Co. for $210 in Commonwealth paper a tract of 35 acres in Hardin Co. The witnesses are Amos Hart and Zenas Parker and the deed is signed John Parker and Olive Parker. It was acknowledged in person on October 1, 1825. (K/56) This 35 acre tract is the southern part of the 82 acre tract that Parker bought in 1824.

On October 1, 1825 John Parker and Olive, his wife, of Hardin Co. sell to Amos Hart of Hardin Co. for $200 a tract of 20 acres in Hardin Co. The witnesses are Tenar Parker and Squire Gilbert. The deed was acknowledged personally August 17, 1827. (K/303) This tract is part of the large block of about 250 acres that Parker owned in 1824 and it is not clear how he acquired it.

On August 7, 1827 John Parker and Olive, his wife, of Hardin Co. sell to Rufus Smith of Hardin Co. for $600 a tract of 190.75 acres in Hardin Co. Amos Hart is one of the witnesses. The deed was acknowledged in person on November 10, 1827 and Olive relinquished her dower rights on December 27, 1827. (K/368) This tract is what remained of the block of about 250 acres that John Parker had in 1824.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:

See notes under his son Richard F. Parker. This sketch and the article by Stiles O. Parker in Parker in America (pg 461) list the same children except that Stiles O. does not include the twins Silas and Cyrus.

BIRTH and DEATH DATES:

According to Cemetery Inscriptions and Records 1831-1990/ Branch County Michigan/ Rural Cemeteries of Branch County (1991, Branch County Genealogical Society), John Parker, Olive Parker and Silas Parker are buried in Evergreen Cemetery, which is in Section 20 of Girard Township. The dates do not agree with those in the biographical sketch of Richmond F. Parker.

John Parker -- 1868, ae/72y
Olive Parker -- 1870, wife/John, ae/7?y 5m
Silas Parker -- 1862, ae/25y, info from Sexton's book

The photograph in Find-a-Grave shows clearly that John's death date is March 25, 1865. Silas's death date is clearly January 19, 1863. His age appears to be 25 years and 19 days.

General Notes: Wife - Olive Foster

A biographical sketch of Olive's son Richmond F. Parker says that she lived with him during the last years of her life. That may be so but she is not in his household in the 1870 census.

TOMBSTONE:

Her death date can be read in the photograph on Find-a-Grave. Her age is 7? years & 5 months. The years number looks like '72'. If it is '73', it is consistent with the birth year in the biographical sketch of her son Richmond F. Parker.
