FIRST MARRIAGE:

"Kentucky, County Marriage Records, 1783-1965" at ancestry.com is a typewritten transcription of the original record, and the name of Elisha Franklin's first wife is Polly Coyl. The discussion at http://azstrong.tripod.com/jd_letha/legacy/902.htm indicates that her name was Polly Coe and that her parents were Joshua Coe and Rachel Paul.

PROBATE:

In response to an order of the September term of the Wayne County Court, an inventory and appraisement of the estate of Elisha Franklin was submitted to the court on October 10, 1840. Lemuel Locket was the administrator. Far and away the most valuable item was a 16-year-old slave named Moses worth $500. A sale took place on October 13, 1840. Elizabeth Franklin bought 5 hogs, 1 cow, most of the furniture and household items, and a few other items. William Lockett bought a chisel; Lewis Parker bought a drill; and Lemuel Lockett bought 3 hogs and several farm items. Moses was not sold. GUARDIANSHIP:

Wayne County Court, September Term 1842:
"On motion of Lewis Parker ordered that he be appointed Guardian for the infant orphans of Elisha Franklin decd to wit Matilda T. Franklin, Lewis P. Franklin, Louisa Franklin, Mary Franklin who thereupon executed and acknowledged bond in the penalty of $3000 with Micajah Phillips his security conditioned according to law." General Notes: Wife - Elizabeth Lockett

Elizabeth Franklin was alive when William Lockett wrote his will in January 1850. Her children were living with William Lockett when the census was taken in August 1850. I cannot find her in the census. This suggests that she died between January and August 1850. However, she might have been somewhere else while her children were living with their grandfather. I have been unable to find any record of her death or remarriage.
