James W. Grinstead, age 84, a resident of Decatur for 50 years, died at 1:45 p.m. Monday in his home, 428 North Jasper. His death was caused by heart disease.
Mr.Grinstead was born in Louisville, Ky. Nov. 29, 1851. He came to Decatur about 1884. For a number of years he conducted a dray line. He was a member of the Church of God.
He leaves a son and two daughters, Roy Grinstead, Mrs. Charlotte Cooper and Mrs. Ruth Clem, all of Decatur.

Mrs. Elvira Belle Grinstead, mother of Roy Grinstead who fell dead in his grocery store at King and Van Dyke streets Wednesday morning, died suddenly at 6 a.m. today in her home at 453 West Green street. She was 76 years old.
Although she had been in poor health for the last six years, Mrs. Grinstead had been able to get around in a wheel chair. Yesterday she was taken to see her son's body at the Moran & Sons funeral home and she had planned to attend his funeral today.
Joint services for Mrs. Grinstead and her son, whose funeral was postponed, will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow in the Moran chapel. Mrs. Grinstead will be buried in Greenwood cemetery; her son in Fairlawn.
A daughter of Ralph and Martha Jane Whitsett, Mrs. Grinstead was born Aug 26, 1862 in Clark county, Ind. She was married to James W. Grinstead in 1885 in Decatur, where she had come some time before with her parents. She was a member of the First United Brethren church.
Mrs. Grinstead leaves one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Clem of Decatur; one brothers, O.H. Whitsett of Decatur; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Best and Mrs. Alice Hinderliter, both of Decatur; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Friends may call at Moran's funeral home after 7 p.m. today. Golden Crown camp 129, Royal Neighbors of America, of which Mrs. Roy Grinstead is a member, will meet at 2:45 p.,. tomorrow in the funeral home to attend the funeral.
