DATABASE 'lesanne17' in WORLDCONNECT:

NAOMI b. ca.1775 d. ca.1855. Richard Grinstead acted as security when Naomi and Thomas Meek secured their license to wed on April 13, 1807. Both were noted as being over 21 at that time. Naomi and Thomas were married on June 17, 1807 and they subsquently had five children : Elizabeth ( Betsy ) b. 2-6-1808, William b. 10-25-1810, Samuel b. 7-10-1812, Martha ( Patsy ) b.1-24-1816 d. 9-19-1893 ,and Ann b. 6-8-1819. Naomi is identified as "head of household" in the 1830 census which probably means that Thomas left or died prior to that date. In the 1850 census, Naomi's age is given as 75 and she is living with her son Samuel.

COMMENT:

The 1840 census for Naomi (Nona W. Meaks) matches the ages of the four older children very well if they are all still living in the household of their mother. The youngest child, Ann, married in 1839. If Elizabeth born in 1808 is the same person as the Eliza Meek who married in 1850, she was unusually old at the time of her marriage.

AGE of NAOMI:

Naomi was said to be 87 when she died in 1858, thus born in about 1771. She was 75 in the 1850 census, thus born in about 1775. Both ages depended on the memory of some informant, which may or may not have been accurate. In earlier censuses she appears younger. Her youngest child was born in 1819, suggesting that she was born in 1775 or later.
