WFGA:
The William Grinstead Family in America(Gorrell Shumaker and John L. N. Grinstead, April 1974):
pg 163: "Philip Grinstead (ca. 1770--1828) MARRIED 3/25/1803 Lucy Hooker (2/23/1769--9/8/1852).
"Lucy was daughter of Joseph and Lucy Guy Hooker. They were married in Richmond, VA. Their oldest child, Lavina, was born in VA. The three sons, George Rollins, Fantroy, and Philp Wade Grinstead were all born in Barren Co., KY where Philip and Lucy, in company with Philip's brothers, David and Richard, came in 1805. A brother, Jesse, followed in 1810 and another brother James came to Kentucky in 1817. Philip was a carpenter and a millwright. He was one of the early mechanics in Glasgow, as were his nephews John and Henry, sons of Jesse.
"Philip built a mill on South Fork Creek, just outside of Glasgow, and operated it until his death in 1828. Lucy survived him by almost a quarter-century, dying in 1852. Although quite small, Lucy was a very active and useful woman. In childhood she survived smallpox, and being immune thereafter, she nursed, far and near, those who became afflicted with this dreaded disease. She also became an efficient midwife and it is said that she attended more women and babies at birth than any doctor in Glasgow. Further, for her services in nursing she never made any charge. It seems quite fitting then that, in the obituary prepared for Lucy, a Glasgow writer and poet, J. R. Barrick, closed with these words, "Reared in Virtue; Turth, Religion's Path She lived a Christian Life, and died a Saint, Just Heir of Heaven and Immortality." (Note: most of the above has been "borrowed" from the Philip Wade Grinstead 'Record'."
Note: On page 1 in The William Grinstead Family in America the authors state that one of their sources is the "1930 'RECORD' of Philip Wade Grinstead'. This Philip Wade Grinstead (1866-1931) is a grandson of Phillip Wade Grinstead (1808-1862). He is a son of Robert Emmet Grinstead (1840-1924).
