Funeral Is Held
For J. F. Grissom
--------
In the passing of J. F. Grissom of Florence on Saturday, January 20, in Phoenix, Arizona, the district lost another of its beloved and respected citizens.
Mr. Grissom, accompanied by Mrs. Grissom, had gone to Arizona ten days prior to his demise in the hopes that a winter spent in a different climate would build up his health. It was only a week after his arrival that he succumbed to a heart attack.
Born in Kentucky on June 26, 1869, Mr. Grissom was united in marriage with Miss Ada Hampton in Missouri on December 24, 1906, coming to the Florence district in 1919.
The first Mrs. Grissom passed away February 11, 1937.
On October 18, 1939, Mr Grissom was married to Mrs. Claudia Grimes. He is survived by his widow, two sons, Leland and Harwood at home, and five daughters, Mrs. Wanda Marie Scruggs Mrs. Whanitta Zeran of Everettt, Mrs. Elsie Hancock, Stanwood, Mrs. Bernice Crouch, Seattle, and Miss Evelyn Grissom at home, and two granddaughters, Marie and Janice Hancock of Stanwood.
Impressive last rites were held Saturday afternoon at the C. J. Gunderson funeral chapel in East Stanwood, with Brother Jacobs of the Christian church of Mt. Vernon preaching the sermon.
Mrs. Edwards of Mt. Vernon sang two humns, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Asleep in Jesus."
Mr. Grissom was a member of the Order of Modern Woodmen, and was for a number of years president of the East Stanwood Townsend club and an active worker for its interests.
Interment was in the Anderson cemetery.
