MARRIAGES:
John's son Jacob was born in about 1796, several years before his marriage to Nancy Hale in 1803. John must have had a previous wife who died.
The marriage records of Bedford Co., Virginia indicate that a John Reese married Ann Brown in 1792 and Mary Bowyer in 1794. I am assuming that this John Reese married Mary Bowyer. There is another John Reese in the Bedford Co. personal tax lists from 1797 until 1801. The other John Reese is probably the husband of Ann Brown. It is possible that this John Reese had 3 wives.
BEDFORD CO., VIRGINIA PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX LIST:
John Reese is in the Bedford Co., Virginia personal property tax list for the first time in 1792 and is there continuously until 1816. Until 1801 he is in the northern district as is his father Sloman Reese, and then in 1802 and later he and his father and his siblings are in the southern district. John's entry and Sloman's are sometimes contiguous. John never owns a slave. He has more than the usual number of horses, often between 5 and 10. He probably left Virginia in about 1817 to go to Tennessee.
LAND in LINCOLN CO., TENNESSEE:
On November 3, 1817 John Maze of Lincoln Co. sells to John Reece of the same place for $1000 a tract of 200 acres, more or less, in Lincoln Co. on the west waters of Mulberry Creek a north branch of Elk River. The tract is described by metes and bounds. (Lincoln Co., Tennessee Deed Records, E-1/3, image 315/568 at Familysearch.org)
