WHO IS HER FATHER?

Matilda married in 1835 in Morgan Co. She was born in about 1820. The only men with surname Reese (or its variants) in Morgan Co. in the 1830 census are John C., Joseph, and Thadeus B. We have a list of the children of Joseph, and Thadeus does not have a daughter of Matilda's age. John C. Reese does have a place for her in the census. Matilda is probably his daughter. Moreover, Matilda is the name of John C. Reese's first wife, and in the tax list John C. Reese's property adjoins that of a Hillsman. Matilda married Henry St. John Hillsman.
