WHO IS HIS FATHER?
Asbury might or might not be Jonathan's son. A male of about his age is needed to fill two matching slots in the 1830 and 1840 censuses. See the census comparison in the notes for Jonathan. Note that Jonathan's son Baltis named one of his sons William Asberry. In 1840 Jonathan Hinkle is living close to (i.e., 15 census entries away from) Malachi Peacock. On the other hand Asbury says repeatedly that he was born in North Carolina, which seems unlikely for a son of Jonathan.
I think that it is more likely that Asbury is a son of Mary Hinkle, who is in the 1850 Hardin Co. census as Mary Hench. She is 2 entries away from Malachi Peacock. Lucinda Hench appears in subsequent censuses as Lucinda Hinkle. She is probably the wife of William Hinkle, who is in the 1850 census as William Hench. Asbury is then a brother of William and a brother-in-law of Lucinda Hench/Hinkle, who named one of her sons Asbury. Mary and her children were born in North Carolina. The relevant census entries follow.
I will leave Asbury attached to Jonathan because I know nothing about his father. Why did Mary Hench/Hinkle, presumably a widow, arrive in Hardin Co. from North Carolina shortly before 1850? It MIGHT be that Mary's husband is a brother of Jonathan who left South Carolina and went to North Carolina, where he died after the birth of Benjamin R. Or it may be that Mary and Jonathan are completely unrelated to each other.

David is Lucinda's child and William is probably her husband. Malachi Peacock lives at 165/165.
In 1860 B. R. Hinkle (19, M, NC, com labor, $--) is living in Hardin Co. in the household of Henry C. Haggard (25, farmer, 2 Civil District, p.o. Saltillo). Martha Hincle (20, F, Tn, house labor, $--) is living in Hardin Co. in the household of J. A. Godwin (40, farmer, 1 Civil District). She may or may not be Martha J. Hench/Hinkle. I cannot find a marriage record for her or Rachel or Rebecca. There are no marriage records for Hardin Co. prior to 1859, and the early records after 1859 are probably not complete.
