He is not in the Slave Schedule. The fact that Amanda and Samantha are out of normal age order, the fact that Amanda was born in Mississippi, and the fact that the last 3 children in the list are spaced 1 year apart in age suggest that the last 2 children might be orphans taken in by Jonathan. Such a flurry of childbearing by a woman in her early forties would be unusual. On the other hand, according to Shirley Drury Patterson, Elizabeth Paine's parents had moved to Mississippi by 1840 and by 1850 were living in Tishomingo Co., Mississippi, which adjoins Hardin Co., Tennessee. Elizabeth might have been staying with her parents when Amanda was born. And it is not clear whose children they would be if they are not Jonathan's.
In 1860 Jonathan and his wife are dead, and the unmarried children are dispersed.

DEATH:
On February 1, 1858 an inventory was returned by James Harmon, administrator of the estate of Jonathan Hinkle. See "Hardin Co. Tennessee Records 1820-1860" compiled by Thomas A. Hays, 1985.
CHILDREN:
The following list of children is on pages 43-44 in an article by Shirley Drury Patterson in the Hardin County Historian (Volume 1, No. 3, July-Dec. 1997) entitled "Hinkle/Patterson Families of Hardin County, Tennessee". She says that the late Henry William Hinkle of Bartlesville, Okla. furnished the information on the names and marriages and that some have been confirmed by Hardin Co. marriage, cemetery, and census records. I believe that the existence of Joshua is doubtful.

General Notes: Wife - Elizabeth Paine
In an article entitled "Hinkle/Patterson Families of Hardin County, Tennessee" in the Hardin County Historian, Volume 1, No. 3 July-Dec 1997, Shirley Drury Patterson says the following about the marriage of Baltis Hinkle and Elizabeth Paine:
"He had married in 1822 to Elizabeth Paine, born in Georgia in 1805. She was the daughter of Thomas D. and Sarah ( ) Paine. Thomas, born in Virginia circa 1783, also lived in Georgia and Alabama, before a move to Hardin County, Tennessee before the 1830 census. He also appears in the 1833 census of males. The Paines did not remain long in Hardin County, as they appear in the 1840 and 1845 censuses of Pontotoc Co., Mississippi. In the 1850 and 1860 censuses, they were shown living with their son-in-law and daughter, John B. and Melissa (Paine) Williams and their six children in Tishomingo Co., Mississippi."
Baltis certainly had a wife named Elizabeth, but I do not know what evidence establishes that she was Elizabeth Paine.
