MILITARY SERVICE:

According to Confederate State Roster -- South Carolina, Vol. II (Unit Roster), Robert Hitt, Peter Hitt, Patrick Hitt, and Henry L. Hitt were in Inf. 3rd Bn. Co. B along with Abraham Hollingsworth, Robert T. Hollingsworth, Isaac G. Lowe, and other men from Laurens District.

I haven't found this Robert Hitt in 1870 or in 1880.

3rd Infantry Battalion [also called Lauren's Battalion and James' Battalion] was organized in November, 1861, at Camp Hampton, near Columbia, South Carolina. It contained four companies, with three additional companies joining the unit at White Point. Most of the men were from Laurens County, and a few were recruited in Richland and Fairfield counties. The Battalion was reorganized in April 1862.
