General Notes: Wife - Susan Jane Kifer
On page 7 of Unbroken Circle Mary Jane McCurdy mentions Aunt Susan Appleby:
"There was a place recommended to us where there seemed to be more to eat than where we was living. Aunt Susan Appleby that went with us had a wagon and team; three families of us, I guess as many as twenty people, all women and children and only one fourteen year old boy, made the move. We found it almost as destitute as the place we had left; we come nearer starving there then anywhere we had been."
Susan Appleby was married to Andrew T. Appleby and was the younger sister of Judah Ann Kifer, Mary Jane's mother. A little further on Mary Jane mentions the fourteen year old boy again and calls him Uncle John. He is John Kifer, a younger brother of Susan and Judah Ann. Through her father Mary Jane was a second cousin once removed of Andrew Appleby.
