PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX LIST:

1782 is the first year that a list of men required to pay a tax on personal property is available for Fauquier Co. and Culpeper Co., Virginia. Nimrod Hitt is on the Fauquier Co. list in 1784 when he was about 22 but never again (1819 is the last year for which I have seen the list). He is never on the Culpeper Co. list (1823 is the last year for which I have seen it). This may mean that he went to another county when he was a young man, unlike his 2 brothers Peter, Jr. and Reuben who continued to live close to their father.
