The following item is in the 1831 will of William's grandfather Alexander Reid of Putnam Co., Georgia:

Item 5. I will and bequeath to my grand Son William Alexander Rees four Negroes (to wit) Alfred, Pat, Easter & her child Mary and their future increase & also to the said William Alex Rees, one horse and Saddle worth one hundred & twenty five dollars, but if the said William A Rees should die during nonage or before he has issue, then and in that event the property I have given to him is to be equally divided among my wife & children

On 5 Nov 1832 Thaddeus B. Rees is appointed "Guardian of the person and property of William A Rees a minor of Thaddeus B Rees", and Thaddeus B. Rees, John Floyd, and Julius A. Astin are held and firmly bound unto the Justices of the Inferior Court sitting as a Court of Ordinary in the sum of $4000 relative to Thaddeus B. Rees's performance of his duties as guardian.

Income is reported for 1834-36. A portion of the income comes from hiring out the Negroes. In 1835 they are identified as Alfred, Easter, Pat, and Mary. Expenses are reported for "Board Washing & Lodgeing" and for "Clothing & Schooling".

An entry for "Thadeous B. Rees Guardian of William A. Rees Minor" references J501 and reports a payment of $1925 to William A. Rees on November 6, 1842.
