General Notes: Husband - David E. McCurdy

CENSUS:

1840 Washington Co., Arkansas, Prairirie Township
David E. McCurdy 10001 -- 1001; 1 in agriculture; no slaves
male female
1 < 5 1
5-10
10-15
15-20 1
1 20-30

He is in the sequence David E. McCurdy, Wm McCurdy, x, x, Sam'l McCurdy, Mathias Brower, Hezekiah Appleby, x, James McCurdy. Wm, Sam'l, and James McCurdy are brothers, and David E. is the son of Wm.

David E. McCurdy 35 MW Ar $400 Miner

There are 5 other miners in the household. They all say that their "average daily product" is about $2.50. Almost everyone on the page is a miner.

Thomas McCunly 20 MW Ar Farmer
Margarett " 22 FW Ar
Susan " 25 FW Tn ---/$500
Mary " 18 FW Ar
John " 11 MW Ar

It seems reasonable to conjecture that Thomas and Margaret are the two children of David E. McCurdy in the 1840 census and that Mary and John are younger siblings. It is not clear who Susan is.

1870 Washington Co., Ar, Elm Springs Tsp., p.o. Elm Springs; Aug; pg 27
174/179
S. J. McCurdy 50 FW Tn $600/$100 K H
J. E. " 21 MW Ar Farmer
J. S. " 20 FW Ar At home

J. E. is probably the John who was 11 in 1860. J. B. Appleby (James Barnett, son of Hezekiah) lives at 173/178, and thus we conjecture that David E. McCurdy married a daughter of Hezekiah Appleby. In 1880 the widow is living in Hopkins Co., Texas with her son John E. McCurdy (31, Ar Tn Tn, farmer) as Louisa J. McCurdy (59, Tn Ga Ky). In 1900 she is still living in Hopkins Co. as Jane McCurdy (79, Wd/4/3, Tn Ga Ky). Her maiden name might be Louisa Jane Appleby. The 'S' in 'S. J.' in the 1870 census is clearly an 'S', not an 'L'.

General Notes: Wife - Louisa Jane Appleby

The combination 'Louisa Jane' and 'Appleby' is conjectural. See notes under her husband.
