The three older children were born before the marriage of Augustus and Talitha. On 4 Oct 1850 an Augustus Reese married Sarah Pickles in Wilkinson Co., Georgia. That Augustus Reese may be this Augustus Reese.

Early Co. is south of Stewart Co. in the same part of the state whereas Wilkinson Co. is in the middle of the state adjoining Jones Co.

The marker mistakenly gives his birth year as 1834.

"William Augustus Reese b: 1826 in Georgia d: 28 Jan 1865 in Quitman, Ga. This could be Quitman in Brooks County, Ga, or in Quitman County, Ga. This marker is a Memorial marker only-it was placed here by great great grandaughter, llena Gilbert Drake, Fact 1: 1860 Census listed him in Early County, Georgia, 34 years old and an overseer. Fact 2: Joined Confederate Army as a private in Company G. 29 Battalion Ga. Volunteers. Wounded in 1864 and died in a field hospital. Buried in Quitman, (I think Quitman Co., Ga, however, others believe in Quitman, Brooks County, Ga.)"

According to great nephew, John McCormick, the name should be Talitha McCormick Reese. The Hayes comes from her daughter Sophronia Elizabeth Reese Hayes which is the wife of John Bartow Hayes.
Talitha was the oldest daughter of William McCormick III and Melapiel Penelope Sarah Ayers McCormick. William owned land the cemetery is on. The family including Talitha lived here. Talitha later bought the land. She lived here and is buried here. She donated the land for the cemetery.
