This family moved from Virginia to Kentucky in August 1781 with a group of about 180 pioneers. It is tradition that John and Elizabeth were at the seige of Bryan Station by Indians in 1782 where the women at the station prevented its destruction by fire by carrying buckets of water from a nearby spring to the station. (The women's names are inscribed on a memorial wall at Bryan Station Springs).
John and his family moved to Craigs Fort in January/February 1783.
John's estate was probated on 3 July 1819.
