BIRTH:

Samuel's birth record is on page 99 of Births, Marriages, Baptisms and Deaths from the Records of the Town and Churches in Coventry, Connecticut 1711-1844 by Susan Whitney Dimock. Below the birth record for Samuel is the comment "What is above written was taken out of the Records from Northampton". That comment appears to apply to 9 children with surname Root born sequentially from July 1692 to September 1707 followed by Ephraim Root born December 1709, presumably in Coventry.

I assume that Northampton is Northampton, Massachusetts.

17780-1. viii. SAMUEL ROOT (son of Dea. Thomas Root and Thankful Strong) b. Oct. 17, 1705: a farmer in Willington Ct. He m. March 12, 1728, Mercy Parker. His children were all born in Coventry before his removal to Willington except Tryphena, the last.

Mercy's marriage in Coventry in 1728/1729 strongly suggests that she is a daughter of Deacon Samuel Parker, and her husband, Samuel Root, is probably a brother of the wife of Deacon Samuel's eldest son Samuel, Jr.
