Died, of la gripe in his home in Tecumseh, Neb., Tuesday, Feb. 6, Riley Parker, aged 89 years. Mr. Parker was an old resident of Marion County coining here in 1851. He lived near Hamilton, removing about twelve years ago to Kansas and later to Tecumseh, Neb. Mrs. E. B. Woodruff of this city, and Mrs. Geo. Munsell and Riley Parker of Hamilton, children of the deceased, were at his side during his last illness. The remains were interred at Tecumseh.
----------
The Express last week contained a short notice of the death of Riley Parker, in the Tecumseh (Neb.) Republic we find an extended account, from which we reprint the following:
"On Tuesday, February 8, Riley Parker, who has been a resident of Tecumseh for several years, died at the home of his son, L. S. Parker, in this city, at the advanced age of 88 years, 7 months and 17 days.
"The funeral took place Wednesday at 2 o'clock in the M. E. Church. Services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. B. Alexander. The I. O.O.F. of which Mr. Parker was a member, had charge of the obsequies. The remains were interred in the Tecumseh Cemetery.
"Out of respect for the deceased all business houses were closed from 2 to 4 p. m., on Wednesday.
"Riley Parker was born in Ontario County, New York, in 1805, and at 10 years of age moved to Ohio and soon after to Kentucky. He worked for a time at his trade, blacksmithing, in Louisville, then returned to Ohio, where he remained till the year 1851, when he emigrated to Marion County, Iowa. He moved to Republican County, Kansas, about the year 1883 and lived on a farm, and in 1888 came to Tecumseh.
"He was converted to the Christian faith when fifteen years old and united with the M E. Church, and continued faithful follower of Christ and maintained his connection with the church till his death."

The following statement at

probably explains why no marriage record for Riley Parker and Lovicie Parsons has been found.
Record Loss:
1875 -- A courthouse fire on 2 April destroyed or damaged records. The marriage records between 1829-1839 were possibly completely lost in the fire.
