OBITUARY:
"Obituaries Hill County, Texas 1886 -- 1900", page 114 (Hillsboro Public Library)
November 29, 1893 -- Obituary -- Sunday morning, November 19th, surrounded by his Family, and a number of friends, Bro. J. M. Young of Abbott, Texas, breathed his last on earth. He was born in Titus county, Texas, January 25, 1849, was converted and joined Pleasant Valley Baptist church in Anderson county, 1865; married to Miss Sarah A. Reese July 1, 1866, who died at the birth of their second child. Married again September 1870 to Miss K. P. Ritchie, who survives him with eight children to mourn their irreparable loss. He also leaves two orphan grand children, and his aged mother, who now survives all her children except one daughter, and who is now past 80 years of age. In his death the church suffers a great loss, the pastor is bereft of a warm personal friend. The entire community is bereaved in that one of the best citizens has been taken away. He was kind and affectionate in his family, upright discreet and generous as a citizen, and his death leaves a vacancy most difficult to fill. The strength of his manhood was spent in his Lord's service. His life was full of good works. He left us the pattern of man virtues. We mourn, but not as those without hope, for he died in the triumphs of living faith. "He is not dead but sleepeth and will wake again at the call of his viour [sic] and put on glorious immortality. There is no death [can't read the remainder].
General Notes: Wife - Sarah A. Reese
