Letter addressed to Attorney Beaufort Watts Ball or Laurens, South Carolina from his cousin, Mr. Lewis BALL of Clinton, Mississippi, dated Sept. 23, 1892.
My dear cousin,
(gives lots of family information)
3rd paragraph states:
"William Ball was the name of my father's father and therefore the name of your grandfather's father. Grandfather had other sons as follows: Jeremiah, Peter, William and one daughter Elizabeth who married Henry Hitt . . . My Uncles all died in south Carolina. My father was born in VA., in 1781(his father was Lewis Ball, Sr.). He was three years old when grandfather moved to S.C. so you see his removal was just after the revolution. I take it that your grandfather (George Ball) was born in VA. also as I think he was older than my father. However I am not certain, as their families were growing up at the same time. My grandfather had four brothers - 2 of them went to Tenn. one to Ind. and one remained in VA. who had a prominent son called Eli . . . .L. Ball
This letter written by Col. Lewis Ball, son of Capt. Lewis Ball and brother of Rev. Martin Ball.
(Entire letter is in the notes of this Lewis Ball)

Letter addressed to Col. Beaufort Watts Ball of Laurens, South Carolina, from Cousin Bessie Ball Wells, dau. of Rev. Martin BALL and she mother of Bessie Caldwell. dated March 12, 1900 Doru, Miss.
Dear Cousin, . . .
2nd paragraph states:
"We have lots of kin on both sides here - we lost a true uncle when Uncle Lewis died . . . Uncle had no enemies and as near perfect as can be. His war record was grand. The Balls can boast of a long list of Ancestors. In the war of the Puritans Col. William Ball was a Royalist and fought under Charles 1st. He emigrated to America and bought up extensive plantations in Lancaster Co. VA. - he was grandfather of Mary Ball youngest daughter of Col. Joseph BALL and the mother of George Washington and the great grandfather of Capt. Lewis Ball, my grandfather who was born 1779 near the close of the Revolution - then at close of war moved to Laurens Co. SC. and Uncle Lewis was borned. The brave and sturdy Capt. of War 1812. The calm courage of Washington of Revolution - the Loyal sacrifice of Col. William Ball to Charles 1st and to England - lived again in this brave man . . .
Much love to all- as ever
Cousin Bessie Wells
