TAX ROLL:
Benjamin Hinds first appears on the tax roll of Wayne Co., Kentucky, in 1825. He owns 1 horse worth $75. If he became 21 in that year, he was born about 1804, which is consistent with the 1850 census. He is absent in 1826 but present in 1827, 1838, and in 1829. He is again absent in 1830. The rolls for 1831 and 1832 are missing, and he appears for the last time in 1833, when he owns 4 horses and 2 slaves and has a net worth of $750. He never owns any land in Wayne Co.
MISSOURI:
According to the census Andrew was born in Kentucky about 1833 and Isaac was born in Missouri about 1835. Benjamin was on the Wayne Co., Kentucky tax roll for the last time in 1833. Land was patented to him in Miller Co., Missouri in October 1835. Thus we deduce that he went to Missouri about 1834.
The following tracts in Miller Co., Missouri were patented to Benjamin Hines. They are very close to the Cole County line, and in the first 4 cases the patentee is Benjamin Hines of Cole Co., Missouri. In the last case he is said to be of Miller Co. His surname is spelled 'Hines'.

The 2 tracts in R13W are almost contiguous as are the 3 in R14W. This Benjamin Hines (young Benjamin) spells his surname 'Hines' in the censuses of 1830, 1840 and 1850. His second cousin Benjamin Hinds (old Benjamin), who came to Miller Co. in about 1844, more consistently spells his name 'Hinds'. I am going to assume that subsequent land grants from 1853 to 1859 to Benjamin Hinds were made to old Benjamin, but in fact some may have been made to young Benjamin.
SLAVES:
On October 22, 1850 John S. Wray of Wayne Co., Kentucky sold to Benjamin Hinds of Miller Co., Missouri for $875 "the entire interest which I purchased of Joseph K. Hinds in the estate of Levi S. Hinds, dec'd," on September 24, 1849. (Bk L, pg 52) That deed is recorded in Book K, pages 346-47. It involved only slaves.
On the same date (October 22, 1850) Richard C. Mercer and B. W. S. Mercer (heirs and legal representatives of Sarah Mercer, dec'd, who was one of the daughters, heirs and legatees of Joseph Hinds, dec'd) of Wayne Co., Kentucky sold to Benjamin Hinds of Miller Co., Missouri for $325 "our undivided interest and shares . . . in and to all the Negro slaves belonging to the estate of Joseph Hinds, dec'd, late of the County of Wayne Ky, that descended to us as heirs aforesaid". (Bk L, pgs 52-53)
On October 22, 1850 Archibald Hinds of Wayne Co., Kentucky sold to Benjamin Hinds of Miller Co., Missouri for a valuable consideration "all of the undivided interest and share of R. C. Mercer of the County of Wayne and State of Ky in and to the Negro slaves belonging to the estate of Joseph Hinds, dec'd, late of Wayne County Ky which interest was sold and transferred to me by the said R. C. Mercer" on March 20, 1848. (Bk L, pgs 53-54) Note that R. C. Mercer is a son of Sarah Hinds and Nicholas Mercer.
On December 30, 1852 Archibald Hinds (one of the sons and divisees of Joseph Hinds, dec'd) of Wayne Co., Kentucky sold to Benjamin Hinds of Miller Co., Missouri for $1500 his 1/14 interest as heir in the slaves belonging to the estate of Joseph Hinds as well as the interest in the same slaves purchased from John Bond and Maryan Bond, his wife, on January 21, 1837. (Bk L, pgs 551-52)
WHICH JOSEPH IS HIS FATHER?
There are two Benjamin Hinds who grew up in Wayne Co in the early 19th century. Old Benjamin was born about 1786 and married Nancy Fox in 1819. Young Benjamin was born in 1803 and married Jane N. Bond in 1826. They were second cousins and both their fathers were named Joseph. Both Benjamins migrated to Miller Co., Missouri and died there in the 1850's. There is no conclusive evidence on the basis of which to decide which Benjamin is the son of which Joseph. Lamentably the deeds in which Benjamin sold his inherited property in Wayne Co. to his brother and brothers-in-law don't mention his wife, as is usual, and thus we don't know for sure which Benjamin is the seller.
We have the 1810 census for Joseph, Jr. (father of Stephen) and the 1810 and 1820 censuses for Capt. Joseph (father of Archibald). In the 1810 census for Joseph, Jr. there are 2 male slots taken up by George and Stephen, thus no room for either old Benjamin or young Benjamin. Although old Benjamin is not yet married and might reasonably be living with his parents, he is certainly old enough to have left and be living elsewhere, maybe with a cousin in Tennessee. There is no plausible 'Benjamin Hinds' in the 1810 census for him. On the other hand young Benjamin is only 6 and we would certainly expect him to be at home. This motivates assigning him to Capt. Joseph, who in 1810 has an available slot for a 6 year old boy. A problem with this assignment is that in 1820 there is no slot for a 16 year old boy in the household of Capt. Joseph. He might, however, be living with his sister Polly and her husband Pleasant S. Johnson, who live close to Capt. Joseph and who have an otherwise unexplained 16-26 male in their household. All in all I think the pairings old Benj./Joseph, Jr. and young Benj./Capt. Joseph are more plausible relative to the census.
Moreover in the public record old Benjamin has several associations with the children of Joseph, Jr. and none with those of Capt. Joseph. Young Benjamin has one association with each -- in Miller Co., he is living next to Joel Bond (son-in-law of Joseph, Jr.), but in Adams Co., Illinois in 1830 he is living next to Elliot P. Wade and probably next to John Brady (both clearly related to Capt. Joseph).

Joel, William, Joseph, and Isaac Bond are brothers. Joel married Jane Hinds, and William married her sister Charity. Joseph married Abigail Hinds, an aunt of Jane and Charity. William's son John Washington Bond married Charity's first cousin Margaret Hinds, a daughter of George Hinds. Isaac's daughter Jane N. Bond married Charity's second cousin Benjamin Hinds, a son of Joseph Hinds. Joseph's son John Bond married Marian Brady (see Joseph Hinds's will).
