General Notes: Husband - William Carnal
One of the executors of Moses Carnal, Senr. was William Carnal. I have assumed that he is a son of Moses. William is in the Caroline Co., Virginia Personal Tax List from 1783 to 1796 and in the Land Tax List from 1789 to 1797. He owns 391 1/2 acres which in 1799 has been divided among Elijah, George, Patrick and William Carnal, presumably his sons.
All of the following citations are from a series of abstracts of Essex Co. records (1695-1751) and Caroline Co. records (1765-1787) by Ruth and Sam Sparacio or from abstracts of Caroline Co. records by John Frederick Dorman (1732-1770). The two earliest citations may refer to another William Carnall who sold land in Essex Co. in 1732. Some of the others may refer to William Carnall, Jr.

Year after year the Caroline Co. personal tax roll is presented as two distinct lists. Typically all of the Carnals are in just one of the lists. In some years that list is described as being for a certain part of the county. In those cases it is always for St. Margaret's Parish. From time to time 1 or 2 Carnals are in the other list.
