RATSBURG, Boone, Indiana

William J. Davis, deceased, was born in Shelby County, Kentucky, April 13, 1812, and departed this life March 5, 1897, being 84 years, 10 months, and 20 days old. He came to Jennings County, Indiana, with his parents when he was eight years old and lived there until 1865. He was married three times during his life. Two of his companions preceeding him to their final reward. His first wife was Sarah Ross, whom he married on November 13, 1832. He was married to Polly Ann Davis on August 8, 1854, and to Ann Chaille on January 30, 1868. The latter survives him. He was the father of twenty-two children, twelve of whom are left to mourn the loss of a kind, loving and affectionate father, but they should not mourn as those that have no hope, for their father was a true and devoted Christian. Uncle Billie became a member of the Baptist Church in Jennings County in 1832 and lived a true Christian life. He became a member of the Center Baptist Church about nine years ago by letter. He was just and upright, loved by all who knew him, and was always ready to lend a hand to the needy. Seven of his children -- five daughters and two sons--and a good number of his grandchildren attended his funeral. One of his daughters is lying at the point of death and could not be at the funeral. One son, Jackson Davis, lives in the west. Rev. William Williams preached the funeral at Center Sunday at 3 p.m., after which he was laid in his last resting place. Bechtell & Son officiated as undertakers.

(These following lines were in another newspaper--After which the remains were laid in the grave to await the sound of the trumpet which will call all that love and serve the lord to their reward. He leaves but little of this world's goods, but it was not his fault, he has been swindled out of a fortune by sharpers (con artists/crooks). The Lebanon Patriot and Lebanon Pioneer had obituary on William J. Davis
