Susan Clay and Elizabeth Holingsworth are sisters. In the Slave Schedule John Clay is the owner of 2 slaves.

I cannot find any of the Clays in 1860.

WHO IS HER FATHER?

Susan married in 1836. The license was issued in Morgan Co. and the wedding took place in Clarke Co. She was born in about 1811. The only men with surname Reese (or its variants) in Morgan Co. in the 1830 census are John C., Joseph, and Thadeus B. We have a list of the children of Joseph, and in the census Thadeus does not have a daughter of Susan's age. John C. Reese does have a place for her in the census. Susan is probably his daughter.

Interestingly, the license was issued by Thad. B. Rees C.C.O. (Clerk of the Court of Ordinary). In this period in Morgan Co. marriage licenses are routinely issued by John W. Porter C.C.O. I did not see another one issued by Thadeus B. Rees. If Thadeus is not her father, he must be a close relative.
