WHO IS HIS FATHER?

He is probably a cousin of his wife, but it is not entirely clear who his father is. In the 1860 census Solomon Hines has a son William, who is 4 years old. Because he has 2 younger siblings, it is probable that he really is 4 years old. He cannot be found in the 1870 census, but he is 23 in 1880.

If the father of William Rife Hines is Solomon, then the birth year on William's tombstone (5 Feb 1859) is probably wrong. William's age in the 1900, 1910, and 1920 censuses varies a lot. It may be that he knew the month and day of his birth but not the year.

If Solomon is the father of William Rife Hines, then William and his wife Salena are first cousins once removed.
