CIVIL WAR:

Simpson Essex was in the 16th Tennessee Cavalry Battalion (Neal's) Company C and his brother Albert and their first cousins James H. Essex and W. A. Essex were in the 1st Tennessee Cavalry Regiment (Carter's). Albert and James H. were in Company D and W. A. was in Company A. All survived.
