BIRTH YEAR:
Jordan Z. Licett is buried in the Pecan Cemetery in Erath Co., Texas as is his second wife. The dates on the small horizontal tombstone are April 26, 1854 and March 12, 1939. See Memorial # 25426606 in Find-a-Grave. The census makes it clear that he was already alive in 1850. The dates on the stone match those on the death certificate. The informant for the death certificate was the son of the deceased. He probably knew his father's birthday but was confused about the year of his birth or about his age. The precise age on the death certificate was calculated in one way or another on the basis of the birth and death dates.
I conjecture that he was born April 26, 1849.
General Notes: Wife - Julia Ann Reese
TWINS:
I do not know whether Julia Ann and her twin sister Lula Ann were identical or not. I have a photograph of their half sister Alice and her twin sister Ada Lecy made when they were more or less 40 years old. It shows clearly that they were identical.
BIRTH YEAR:
The birth date in the 1900 census for both Julia Ann and her twin sister Lula Ann is September 1868, which is consistent with the following obituary. The birth date on both their death certificates is September 1, 1868. The date on Julia Ann's tombstone is September 1, 1869. I conclude they were born September 1, 1868.
OBITUARY:
The following obituary is from an unknown newspaper. June 1957.
Woman, 88, Will Be Buried Near Purvis
DUBLIN, June 1 (Spl).--Mrs. Julia Ann Licett, 88, who died Wednesday while visiting a daughter, Mrs. Eva Carter, of Beaumont, Cal., will be buried in Pecan Cemetery, south of Purvis, after funeral services in Harrell Chapel here at 3 p. m. Sunday.
Mrs. Licett was a native of Hill County. She had lived in the Purvis vicinity, eight miles southeast of Dublin, for 50 years.
Survivors include three other daughters, Mrs. Bessie Pickett of Hamilton and Mrs. Rema Wood and Mrs Eula Hicks of Fort Worth; a son E. Licett of Hamilton; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; a brother, W. H. Reese of Coleman, and a twin sister, Mrs. Lula Vodon of Garland.
FAMILY REUNION:
I have in my possession a sheet of paper on which the following has been typed. It appears to be a copy of an article which appeared in the Coryell Courier in December, 1905. Lampasas County adjoins Coryell County, and Adamsville in Lampasas County is close to the county line. The reunion in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Z. Licett took place near Dublin in Erath County, a significant distance away. In July 2013 I was at the public library in Dublin. I looked carefully at 4 issues of the Dublin Progress from December 15, 1905 (#31) through January 12, 1906 (#35; the January 5 issue is #33 and #34). I found no reference to the family reunion. More generally I did not see any news from Purvis although there were regular reports from some other small communities around Dublin.
The text of the article follows:
A happy meeting took place at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. Z. Licett on the night of December 22, 1905, when Elder J. B. Reese of Adamsville, Lampasas county, came to visit his half-sister, Mrs. J. Z. Licett, also to meet his twin sisters, Mrs. Alice Walton of Armstrong county and Mrs. Adlecy Young of Wise county, it having been twenty-one years since Elder Reese had seen his twin sisters. They arrived at the home of Mr. Licett Sunday morning, also W. H. Reese of Hill county came over the same day. They remained at Mr. Licett's until Tuesday evening when they left for the home of W. H. Reese in Hill county, where they were joined by Mrs. M. P. Wilson, sister of Mrs. Licett, and W. H. Reese. As we have stated, Mrs. Walton and Mrs. Young are twins and own sisters of Elder Reese, and Mrs. Licett and Mrs. Wilson are twins and own sisters of W. H. Reese. They are the children of Elder H. N. Reese, deceased, who was the father of twenty-two children, only eight of whom are living. The two that were not present are J. T. Reese of Bartlett and W. T. Reese of Talpa. It is needless to say that they had a good time -- Coryelle Courier.
