From an unidentified newspaper:

Sarah J. Appleby was born June 22nd, and died Sept. 19, 1909, at Eatonville, Washington. Mrs. Appleby lived near Wanneta for 36 years and was one of the first old settlers in Cherokee county, Kansas. She was married to John Appleby at Lexington, MO, October 8, 1863, and the mother of six children: Addison Appleby who died three years ago, Sol Appleby of Elgin, Sid Appleby of Miami, OK, Zeb Appleby of Wauneta, Mrs. Kate Dutton of Wanneta, and Mrs. Nellie Miller of Eatonville, Washington, all of whom were at her funeral except Mrs. Miller who was so worn out by her mother's long illness, she could not make the long trip alone.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Henry Koonce at the Methodist church in Wanneta and all that was mortal of Mrs. Appleby was laid to rest in the Hewins cemetery by the side of her husband who died years ago.
