J.M.B. Reese, 79, died Saturday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C.E.M. Fendley at 2319 10th Street after an illness lasting nine weeks. Mr. Reese formerly resided in Pickens County but 19 years ago moved to Alberta City where he operated a grocery store.
He is survived by his widow, two sons, Davis Reese of Gordo, and Charlie Reese of Northport, and three daughters, Mrs. C.E.M. Fendley of Tuscaloosa, Mrs. Myrtle Fair of Gordo, and Mrs. T. M. Mullenix of Birmingham. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon from the Sands Springs church near Gordo with the Rev. Elisha Brown officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery by Jones and Spigener.
WHO WAS HIS FATHER?
According to "Alabama, Deaths and Burials Index, 1881-1974" at Ancestry.com (FHL Film Number 1908586) the father of John M. B. Reese was Jim Reese and his mother was Era Abbott. John was born 7 Jan 1861. At that time Ara/Era Abbott was the wife of Benjamin W. Reese. 'Jim' and 'Benjamin' are completely different names. It might be that 'Jim' is on the death certificate and that the informant was confused. Note that James Reece was the father-in-law of John M. B. Reese.
