In 1900 Nancy Walton (75, Apr 1825, Wd/7/4, Ky Ky Va) is living in Wichita, Sedgwick Co., Kansas in the household of her son J. W. Walton (48, Nov 1851, M18 Mo Pa Ky, poutryman), his wife, and 6 children.
CHILDREN:
The census indicates that George had 6 children: Robert M., Julia, Eliza, Eldridge, Joseph, and George in order of decreasing age. In October 1862 Anne Walton named George's children in her will as Robert, Julia, Eliza, Elverton, and Joseph. In 1867 the new administrator of the estate of Joseph Walton, Anne's husband, made a statement that suggested that in September 1863 the children were Robert, Julia, Eliza, Joseph, and George. George is in the 1870 census, so why is he missing in his grandmother's list? Are Elverton and Eldridge the same person? Eldridge was killed October 5, 1864 in the battle of Allatoona.
LIVERY STABLE:
George Walton is in a St. Louis city directory for the first time in 1845. In Green's 1845 St. Louis Directory he has a livery stable on the east side of 2nd, north of Hazel. In 1847 he is not present. In J. H. Sloss's 1848 St. Louis Directory George is associated with Joseph Walton and Joseph, Jr. in livery stables at 33 and 35 St. Charles. On June 28, 1849 George and his brother Samuel D. leased a livery stable from their father and borrowed $2500. In 1851 George has a livery stable at 27 St. Charles, and in 1852 his livery stable and residence is on St. Charles between 5th & 6th. For more details about his father and brothers in the livery stable business see notes under Charles D. Walton.
