OBITUARY:

Find-a-Grave Memorial # 107350540:

"AN OLD CITIZEN OF COUNTY DEAD: Mr. E. W. REESE Was Past Four Score [= 80] Years--Father of Police Officer of City. // Mr. E. H. REESE, one of the oldest and most highly respected farmers of Muscogee county, died at his home about four and a half miles northeast of the city at 3:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Mr. REESE was past the allotted time of man, having attained the age of eight-one-years. He was one of the most active men of his years in the county, and always took a great interest in the public welfare. He leaves three children and a number of grandchildren. His sons are Officer Frank REESE, of the Columbus police force, and Mr. J. W. REESE, of Birmingham, and one daughter, Mrs. Mattie BARR, with whom he resides [sic - resided]. // Mr. REESE was a prominent member of the Masonic fraternity, and his funeral, which will probably occur tomorrow, will be with Masonic honors. He was a[n] officer of [K]imbrough lodge, and was not only held in high esteem by members of the order, but throughout the entire community." [Columbus (GA) Enquirer-Sun newspaper, Thursday, 13 APR 1911, p. 3.]

"MR. REESE BURIED FROM PIERCE CHAPEL // Funeral services over the body of Mr. E. H. REESE were held Thursday morning from Piercee chapel church, nine miles north of the city. Interment was made at the same place. Rev. Mr. KETCHUM conducted the services. Pallbearers were as follows: Messrs. O. E. ROGERS, E. J. LIVINGSTON, Bergan KAVANAUGH, S[eranus] M. ROGERS, R. B. KILGROW." [Columbus (GA) Enquirer-Sun newspaper, Friday, 14 APR 1911, p. 5.]

BIRTH PLACE:

In the 1850 census all of the children of Rev. James Reese are said to have been born in Jasper Co., Georgia. However, Rev. Reese lived in Pike Co. in 1830 and in Harris Co. in 1840. The younger children were probably not born in Jasper Co.
