Samuel(3) [James(2), James(1)] early left Groton. The confusion which has existed regarding him and his brother James and their cousins Samuel and James [sons of Samuel(2)] makes it necessary to present proof of connections as far as possible.
Samuel Parker of Boston, with wife Mary, sold in 1707, to his "brother" Phineas Parker, his rights in the estate of their father, James Parker, late of Groton (deed 14, p. 256), and October 22, 1728 (deed 29, p. 156), Samuel Parker of Coventry, Conn., sold his rights in the estate of "my grandfather, Cap. James Parker of Groton." . . . At Boston in the manuscript records of the First Church, I find that Samuel Parker was admitted a member July 26, 1702. Three children of Samuel and Mary are entered in the town record of births and they were promptly baptised in the First Church. Further, the church records show that, January 23, 1709-10, Samuel Parker was dismissed to the church in Stonington, Conn. Next the printed records of Stonington Church, though they do not have any notice of his being admitted, contain this item under date of February 26, 1710: "Samuel Parker's dismission was publicly read." Soon after this the town records of Coventry begin to show the birth of children to Deacon Samuel and Mary Parker, and finally we have the death there, of Deacon Samuel Parker, October 30, 1775, in his 94th year. The Samuel we are tracing began his 94th year September 22, 1775. . . . Children:

(Who was Mary, wife of Deacon Samuel and were there other children? The skip from 1708 to 1714 is suggestive of missing names.)

This unreadable gravestone is believed to be of Mary Carder, the first wife of Dea. Samuel Parker. He was b. Sept. 22, 1682 at Groton, Mass., s. of cousins James and Mary (Parker) Parker. He d. Oct. 30, 1775 at Coventry, Conn., Æ 94.
According to information provided by a volunteer, Mary's gravestone is next to Dea. Parker's second wife Hannah Lothrop, the former widow of Samuel Thompson of Farmington, Conn. There is no record of when Dea. Parker and the widow Hannah Thompson married, but in September 1742 Hannah was still called the widow Hannah Thompson when the estate of her deceased husband was ordered to be distributed to the heirs, including her widow's thirds. In September 1742, Dea. Parker was 60 years old.
Dea. Samuel Parker and Mary Carder m. of record June 1, 1704 at Boston, Mass. (by Rev. James Allen.) Whereas the ancestry of Dea. Parker is known, the ancestry of Mary Carder is not conclusively known, but her parents were possibly Gilbert Carder (q.v. Cordey) and his wife Joanne. The date of Mary's death at Coventry, Conn. is not of printed record. Their first three children were b. of record at Boston (Samuel, Jr., Mary and James) with the four youngest of record at Coventry, Conn. (John, Esther, Phineas and Joseph.) Their dau. Mary, born at Boston, m. Phineas Strong at Coventry in 1724 and she died as Mary (Parker) Strong at Coventry in 1757. She and her husband have their own gravestones at Coventry's South Street Cemetery.
DEATH:
In "Births, Marriages, Baptisms and Deaths from the Records of the Town and Churches in Coventry, Connecticut 1711-1844" (Dimock, 1897) on page 191 in Deaths from Town Records it is said that Deacon Samuel Parker died October 30, 1775 in his 94th year. On page 222 in Death Records of First Church it is said that "Aged Deacon Parker" died in September 1775.

That is to Say first of all I Recommend my Soul to God who gave it and My Body to be Decently Buried in the Earth whence it was taken, and as Touching My Worldly Estate which It hath pleased God to Endow me with I Give & Bequeath in the following Manner ======= Imprimis ==== I Give to my beloved Wife Martha the Improvment of all the Southerly end of my Dwelling House, that is to say all the new part with the Celler under the House & half the Well & one of my best Cows besides the Cow She brought with her, also Six Sheep with the keeping Sd. "Upon the memorial of Nathaniel Ladd, Asa Daviss and others, grand children and heirs of Capt. Samuel Parker, late of Coventry in Windham county, deceas'd, shewing to this Assembly that the said Samuel, deceas'd, by his last will and testament, duely proved and approved, among other bequests gave and bequested to said memorialists certain real estate in common and to be divided to and among said memorialists by the executors of said deceas'd in such way as said executors should judge best, and that said deceas'd in and by said will appointed Phineas Strong, Esqr, and Mr James Parker as executors to said will, and that said Phineas and James after the decease of said Samuel did wholly refuse to accept said trust, and that thereupon the administration of said estate was granted by the court of probate for the district of Windham to Joseph Parker of said Coventry with the said will annexed, and that said Joseph on settling said estate finds it necessary to make sale of some part of said real estate to enable him to discharge the just debts and funeral charges of said deceas'd; thereupon praying this Assembly that full power and authority may be given to said Joseph Parker as administrator, to make sale of the whole of the real estate given to the memorialist by said will and the same to settle to and among said memorialists in the same way and manner as said executors could have done had they accepted said trust, as per memorial on file: Resolved by this Assembly, that power and authority may be given, and that power and authority is hereby granted to the said Joseph Parker as administrator to said estate, to make sale of the whole of the real estate given and bequested to said memorialist in and by said will, and the avails or neet proceeds thereof to divided to and among the memorialists in the same way and manner and proportion as said executors could have done by force of said will; taking the same for his guide, with the direction of the court of probate for the district of Windham therein."
