The following is from an article by Bettye J. Broyles on page 204 in History of Rhea County, Tennessee:
Bluford evidently left Rhea County after the 1860 census was taken and moved to Arkansas where he joined the Confederate Army in July 1861, serving until June 1862. Bluford returned to Rhea County and married Eliza A. Miller on August 19, 1863. He was captured at Washington on November 19, 1863, and sent to the Rock Island, Illinois, prison. He was not released until November 6, 1865.
