LAND:
Between December 1851 and December 1855 James D. Duncan purchased 120 acres in S33 T23N R1W in Greene Co., Alabama (R/281, S/207, T/105). In March 1854 he purchased at auction 142.4 acres in S35 T23N R2W in Greene Co. In September 1855 his father-in-law, David Hitt, bought 80 acres in S33 near but not adjoining his son-in-law's farm (T/360). He was living there when he died in August 1857.
In November 1840 James D. Duncan purchased part of the 30 acre tract that David Hitt kept when he sold 130 acres to his cousin Benjamin B. Hitt in 1826 (K/936). The road from Eutaw to Trussell's Ferry passed through the 30 acre tract; there was a store on the road and probably houses. Duncan also purchased 7 1/2 acres to the west at the same time. He sold it all in August 1844 (N/752).
