FIRST MARRIAGE:
Jacob Early's first marriage is described on page 144 in The Early Families of Knox and Whitley Counties, Kentucky with Allied Families by Cleland Edward Early, Second Edition, 1996.
"In 1903 his father offered him and his brother, Samuel Franklin, a partnership if they would go to Indianola, Indian Territory(Oklahoma), and operate a trading post.
"Jacob Edward and Samuel Franklin Early moved to Indianola and operated the trading post for two years but failed to make a success of the venture. Jacob Edward Early met a part-Indian woman who had 200 acres of land. He had courted her and when his business failed, he married Clara Alice Farmer on May 14, 1905 and became a farmer in Indianola, Indian Territory. He was relatively successful as a farmer and had obtained an additional 80 acres of land but his marriage failed. He was granted a divorce from Clara Farmer Early on December 3, 1917 because of "gross neglect of duty of the defendant." No children were born of this marriage."
