The following is from volume 2, page 170 of "Smith County Mississippi and its Families" (Smith County Genealogical Society, 2006):

Benjamin Everitt, Jr. and his wife and children, James Taylor Gaines, John Ray, Elizabeth Strother, George Gaines, Martha, and Sarah Jane moved to Greene County, Alabama, in 1824 with the George Strother Gaines family where Gaines was appointed as a Government Indian Agent. Benjamin helped Gaines with the Indians, farmed, and was a Justice of the Peace. It is said that George Strother Gaines was very instrumental in the move of Indians from Alabama and Mississippi.
