Obituary

JOHN HARVEY GRIMES

John Harvey Grimes was born on June 19, 1889 at Nevada, in Collin county, Texas. He departed from this world on Oct. 10, 1935.
He moved with his parents to Armstrong county, Texas, at the age of six months, where he grew to manhood. In his early life he identified himself with the Methodist Church at Claude, Texas, where he was loyal and faithful to church and Sunday school.
He was married to Claudia Walton on Jan. 10, 1915, and to this union were born four children--three sons and a daughter; two of whom preceded him in death. In 1930 he moved with his family to Union county, New Mexico, where he lived up to the time of his death.
Surviving him are his wife and two sons, Clyde and Ralph; his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Grimes, of Claude, Texas; five sisters, Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Davis, also of Claude, Mrs. Grimes of Amarillo, Texas, and Mrs. Williams of Clayton. Mrs. John H. Grimes

On October 3, 2012 Clyde Grimes told me that for the first 3 years his parents had success on their farm and that then there was a protracted drought and it became impossible to continue. The lots in Clayton were bought with the money that they received when they sold their share of the property in Claude, Texas that had belonged to Claudia's parents.
