"Philip was born at Glasgow in Barren County KY. Angelina was the dau. of John and Polly Jones, and was born in Barren County. During the Civil War Philip did not serve in the Union Army but he was opposed to secession. He was murdered at his farm home in Metcalf County by Confederate bushwhackers.

"Philip was a farmer and surveyor. In 1859, when the new county of Metcalf was created, he was one of the surveyors who established its boundaries. Angelina survived Philip by more than a quarter of a century. Their fourteen children are listed below as *l* to *14*, in order of their birth."
