He is not in the Slave Schedule.
In 1870 Wm. W. Grinstead (16, Va, farm laborer) is living in Smyth Co., Virginia, Marion Township, in the household of John L. Pickle (36, farmer), probably a brother of his mother. Joseph F. Grinstead (13, Va, works on farm) is living in Smyth Co., St. Clair Township, in the household of John Rouse, 34, farmer. This John Rouse is a son of John Rouse and is not the same John Rouse who was living with Edward Walton Grinstead in 1850. I cannot find Sarah J., John P., or James F. in 1870.
In 1880 the widow and all the children except Joseph are accounted for.
