THE WILLIAM GRINSTEAD FAMILY IN AMERICA (Gorrell Shumaker and John L. N. Grinstead, April 1974):

pg 118 & pg 122: "Tabitha Grinstead was daughter of James Grinstead and his first wife, Mary Shedden. She married John Padget, presumably in Virginia. Paul McClure writes that in a deed, dated April 5, 1834, James Grinstead to William Grinstead for $1.00 - 31 1/2 acres, said William to permit Tabitha Padget to occupy during her lifetime and after death to her heirs, but it was expressly agreed that if ever John Padget should attempt to claim or occupy said land then the indenture is void, etc. This would seem to indicate that John Padget had run off and left his family sometime prior to this 1834 date."
