LAND in HARDIN CO., KENTUCKY:
On December 30, 1820 Elias Rogers and Sally, his wife, of Hardin Co. sold to Amos Hart of Hardin Co. for $179 two tracts in Hardin Co. being part of a tract sold to Rogers by Gideon Granger of New York. The witnesses are Wm. S. Butterfield and John Rider. (H/175) This land is the same as the land that Hart sold to John Parker in 1823.
On November 19, 1823 Amos Hart and Sally, his wife, of Hardin Co. sold to John Parker of Hardin Co. for $179 two tracts in Hardin Co. The first tract contains 54.75 acres and is mostly east of the big road from Elizabeth Town to Munford Ville. It is short (30 poles) north-south and long (265 poles) east-west and is roughly rectangular. The second tract of 5 acres is probably nearby. The witnesses are Stiles Parker, Jr. and Levi Wornice. (J/108)
On October 1, 1825 John Parker and Olive, his wife, of Hardin Co. sold to Amos Hart of Hardin Co. for $200 a tract of 20 acres in Hardin Co. The witnesses are Tenar Parker and Squire Gilbert. The deed was acknowledged personally August 17, 1827. (K/303)
On October 1, 1829 Amos Hart and Sally, his wife, of Hardin Co. sold to William Harkness of Hardin Co. for $65 a tract of 20 acres being a part of a tract of 2000 acres known by the name of Nicholas Lewis within Granger's great tract. The deed was signed by Amos Hart and acknowledged in person on the same day. (L/337) This tract was purchased in 1825.
FURTHER INFORMATION:
Posted on GenForum by Nellie Doornbos March 5, 1998:
I need information on Amos John Hart, born 30 Aug 1824, supposedly in Hardin County, KY. His father's name was Amos Hart and his mother was Sally Parker. His father was born 10 Dec 1790 in NY. His mother was born 19 Jul 1794. Amos John had one brother and two sisters that I know of: Charles Holiday Hart, 20 Dec 1820, Sally Ann Hart, 31 Dec 1817 and Caroline M. Hart, 15 Nov 1821.
Amos John Hart married Sarah Woods Logan 1 Dec 1852 in St. Charles County, MO. Amos and Sarah moved with one of their sons to California about 1890. He died there 27 Jan 1910 in Tulare County.
I actually know a fair amount about Amos John Hart, but not very much about his parents: Amos Hart and Sally Parker. Amos Hart married a second time on 14 June 1847 to Sarah McBeath (her maiden name - she was a divorced woman) who was 11 years younger than Amos. Amos worked as a carpenter. One of Amos John's brother, Charles Holiday Hart was also a master carpenter. Amos John is said to have run a sawmill in California and laid wood flooring in San Francisco.
. . . . By 1847 Amos was in Clinton County, MO.
